Josh Donaldson goes on COVID IL after Tim Anderson controversy

Josh Donaldson is going on the COVID IL, Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Monday.

It comes after a weekend of controversy in which he called White Sox infielder Tim Anderson “Jackie,” ultimately leading to a dust-up between the two teams. Anderson, and many others, believed the comments to be racially charged.

DJ LeMahieu was also out of the lineup on Monday night against the Orioles, though Boone said it was just a planned day off. Miguel Andujar was called up from Triple-A to take Donaldson’s spot on the roster.

It was previously reported that all Yankees players have been vaccinated.
