N.C. woman vanishes same day of planned trip with boyfriend

A North Carolina woman vanished the same day that she was supposed to leave for vacation with her boyfriend — and now he has been arrested driving her car, according to reports.

Jessica Lawrence, 42, was last seen leaving her apartment in St. Pauls on Sept. 26, the same day she had plans with her boyfriend, Michael Brayboy, 42, to go to Pembroke, news station WNCN reported.

“That night is the last night that I’ve seen that vehicle or him or her,” her neighbor, Linda Locklear, told the news station.

But when she missed a rent payment, Locklear and the landlord went into her apartment to check on her.

“We saw stains on the wall and stains on the curtain and a bloody sock on the floor,” Locklear told the outlet.

Since she was reported missing on Oct. 12, authorities have executed multiple search warrants and canvassed areas of concern for her.

Officers on Thursday pulled over her 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee in Red Springs.

Brayboy, a convicted sex offender who spent more than 20 years in prison, was driving the vehicle, authorities said.

He hasn’t been charged in Lawrence’s disappearance, but he was arrested for allegedly failing to report a change of address by a sex offender.

Authorities, however, said foul play is suspected in Lawrence’s disappearance and asked who spotted Brayboy around the days that she went missing to contact them.

“We can’t discuss details of where the investigation is at this point but many leads have been established and evidence has been obtained,” Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said, news station WTVD reported.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance in regards to anyone that observed Brayboy in the vehicle described or may have seen him with Lawrence around September 26-27, 2021 to come forward.”
