Charles “Daniel” Verbeck, departed from this life on Monday, February 17, 2020, at his home in Holdrege at the age of 89 years. He was born January 9, 1931, in Holdrege, the son of Charles M. and Elsie J. M. (Erickson) Verbeck. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. His love of home and family; and labor of the land developed from his traditional farm family. His father farmed while his mother cared for him, and his two sisters: Rosemary and Lillian. Family dinners and birthday celebrations with their extended families were always very special times. Daniel received his education from Holdrege Public Schools, and graduated from Holdrege High School with the class of 1949. Following his education, he began his farming career with his father.
He was united in marriage to Margery Osterbuhr on January 12, 1958, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Holdrege. His family grew to include two sons and two daughters: Mark, David, Jane and Anne. As his health declined his love for family and gardening still persisted and brought joy to his life. He enjoyed traveling to visit his family, and always looked forward to winters in sunny Florida to escape the Nebraska cold.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: George and Lilly Osterbuhr; and his sister-in-law, Adella Lienemann and her husband, Howard.
Surviving his passing is his wife, Margery Verbeck of Holdrege; his four children: Mark Verbeck and his children: Justin, Ryan, Jaxon and Haley; David Verbeck and his wife, Lynne and their children: Daniel, Kaela, and Tess; Jane Weed and her children: Katherine, Elizabeth, Charles, Anna Grace and Sophia; and Anne Sorber and her husband, Kevin and their children: Grant, Benjamin and George; great-grandson, Mason Weed; two sisters: Rosemary Ecklun and her husband, Eugene; and Lillian Pelowski, and her husband, Don all of Holdrege; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He will always be remembered for his sparkling eyes and beautiful smile. We are comforted to know that he is embraced in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
